Ghoelo Kingdom

Ghoelo
Neighboring Yasaka is Goelo, a much more civilized and neutral country of Ghoelo. While not necessarily a great example of democracy, Ghoelo is ruled by a largely “democratic” council - the Din. The Din are elected from the capital of Ghoelo - Zathurin’s City. Of course, no Servant of the State can become a Din, but most regular citizens, in theory, could.
The Din govern over Ghoelo’s large military presence - The Torms, made in the name of the god Torm, who govern over those who are loyal and obedient. The Torms never question their rulers and are trained from birth to be resilient and sacrifice themselves for the greater goal. Ghoelo has a port and trade (military) presence in the sea, but it’s weak in comparison to their neighbor - Jushvyn.
Overall, Ghoelo is large, but most of it is underdeveloped. The infrastructure of Ghoelo isn’t great and the villages and towns surrounding Zathurin are not equipped as well as they should be. The country is ruled by scholars and intellectuals, who wish to have an intimidating military presence but rarely know what else to do with it.

Zathurin’s City
Zathurin’s City is the largest city in almost all of Wesandran and the biggest city in Ghoelo. It’s named by its founder Zathurin, a mage who seeked better treatment for the oppressed. However, instead of freeing the people who slaved him, Zathurin enslaved him in different ways - but gave them liveable conditions.
It is true, many people in Zathurin’s City have nothing to complain about. The city is beautiful, filled with spiraling castles and neatly stacked houses, busy streets and colorful markets, but the slaves are still slaves. There’s little option given for freedom or paid employment. And while they are not abused and live in nice houses, and are constantly fed and taken care of, they don’t have much choice, but to remain generational slaves.
Zathurin’s City is large - over ninety thousand inhabitants live here, and more come every year, from all corners of the world. The city is known for it’s fair treatment of servants of the state, and known for it’s good treatment of the citizens, so many aim to become citizens here - but path to citizenship at Zathurin is hard and to earn it is no easy feat. Many don’t succeed, either leaving or settling for becoming the servants of the state - not realizing that it’s a generational title.
The city is also well protected. Most of the Torms can be found here, others are scattered all over the large country, settled in mountain posts or villages.

Aushar Mountains
The Aushar mountains are a slightly less forgiving territory than most of Wesandran. The mountains are neighbors to the fire-spewing Cresit Peak. While they are not filled with dangerous creatures that guard the peak, they are filled with other dangers - sinkholes, caves that have been left unexplored for centuries, and sand storms, higher than anyone in Ghoelo would expect.
There are no settlements in Aushar, but there is one guard post, facing towards the Cresit Peak. The guards here are always on the watch for smugglers and thieves taking the dangerous path on the way to make quick coins in Ghoelo.

Zan Xas Pass
On the complete opposite spectrum is the Zan Xas Pass. Here nature is beautiful and the valley is bountiful with little towns, cottages and farmland. Settlers live in peace, away from noise made at Zathurin’s City.
The guard presence is also low at the valley, as requested by those who live in it. However, the villagers are not immune to the dangers from the surrounding mountains. From time to time dangerous animals, large beasts or even an occasional monster will raid the village with an attack, but it’s nothing the villagers haven’t learned to defend against. Most of the crops are grown here, feeding not only Ghoelo but many other countries too.
The largest villagers are Wentryl, Uriv and Setamoci, all housing about twenty thousand people collectively. The villagers usually work together to develop plans for the next season and make sure that everyone is fed and taken care of. Servants of the state here are far and between, because people who lived here have lived in peace through most of the war-torn history of Wesandran.
Notability, most prominent races are goblin, half-orc, goliath, lizardfolk and human. To some, this is the valley of gentle giants.

Mist Forest
On the contrary, the land that separates Zathurin’s City and most of Ghoelo territory, the Mist Forest, is far from a safe place for others. Darkness and mist shroud this area, where towns once used to boom. The history of the Mist Forest is complicated and largely lost to the past.
Settlements that used to be here vanished without a trace, leaving empty houses and unkept animals behind. Some say that if you stray too far off the road, you will get lost in the mist forever, unable to return.
To others, the Mist Forest is a spirit kingdom. Those who believe in the new Gods, claim that the forest is home to Nerull, the God of Death - or Lolth, the Spider Queen. While those who still secretly pray to the Old Gods, recall an ancient legend of Wesa, the Queen of the Afterlife. They say that her abandonment drove her mad, and her soul now haunts the forests, taking all who cross into it as her servant.

Orin Pass
Another bountiful region in Ghoelo is the Orin Pass. Here, however, the crops are almost exclusively dedicated to Zathurin’s City. While the mountains surrounding Orin Pass are much safer than those surrounding Zan Xas, the proximity to the Mist Forest makes Orinians a lot more superstitious. Sometimes, they even leave tithes to the Old Gods, in hopes to please them.
In recent years, Orin Pass has seen an increase in theft and pillaging, coming from a group called Mavali. While some of the culprits have been caught, the mountains, even though small, remain a good place for them to hide from the Torms, who now guard the valley.
The main settlements in the pass are Ero and Tyshak. The two villages collectively have no more than ten thousand people, but there are some lonely farms on the outskirts of the pass. There are guard posts in every village and the crops are well protected.
Most of the population is half-elf, human, tiefling and tabaxi. But there are stray elves, halflings and even some dwarves.

Qisnd Lake
Stuck in between Ghoelo and Jushvyn, Qisnd lake is a source of freshwater, fish and water-based transportation to both countries. While they keep peace amongst each other and agree to not break the truce, Qisnd Lake isn’t exactly a safe place for either.
The lake feeds off the mountains, which are known for their malicious energy - the animals sometimes found in the lakes are magical, strong and even dangerous. There have been plenty of fishermen who drowned in the lake, and plenty of local legends speak of a large beast, hiding in the depths and off a beautiful woman who feeds it every night. Locals from both sides avoid the lake during a full moonlight, scared that the woman will feed them to the monster.
Near the lake, there’s a small fishing town, Cana, with about five thousand inhabitants. The people of the town are very simple and don’t trust the guards - or anyone else, really. Most of them are gnomes, lizardfolk and tortle - anyone who likes water. But in some cases, you can find a lonely yuan-ti or tiefling passing by as well.

Rolon’Khande Sashali
A floating settlement of indingeouns tribes, near the Mist Foresta and Zathurin’s City. Rolon has only recently decided to join with Ghoelo, and only after lengthy negotiations and a truce, that the indingenous people will never be made servants of the state.
Rolon’Khande is an interesting place. Here, earth genasi makes it their home. This place is a sanctuary for them, a saint place where they still continue to worship their Old Gods, especially Rasha and Gherzhen. These genasi are also special in the sense that they are exceptional healers. The kindness of these people is endless, and they will help out even a hostile stranger.
But the genasi have learned to be wary as well. Their towers are fortified and no Torms are ever present in their land. They will allow outsiders to pass by and visit, but will never willingly invite them to live with the Khande

Uion Lake
Uion is the closest lake to Zathurin’s City and its main source of fishing trade and freshwater. Uion is also unique because lots of minerals and rocks can be found within its ground, leading it to be mined by Zathurians and the Mining Guild. While the lake isn’t contaminated, the mining has been slowly affecting the natural order of things in the lake - in a way - even upsetting it.
The locals around the lake don’t have a town, but there are plenty of guard posts surrounding the lake, making sure that no one that doesn’t have to be there is not taking advantage of the lake. About ten thousand folk live outside Zathurin’s City in surrounding territories of the lake. They are almost always elves, half-elves, humans, but some genasi can also be found near the lake. Those are the ones who remained on the ground, instead of hiding in the sky fortresses.

Servants of the State
Servants of the State are a group of people who are stuck in unpaid service for generations. They are usually assigned to one master, and as long as that master and his kin are alive, the servants are stuck in service and can only be freed by the master.
The Servants of the State function like workers in that design. They are properly clothed and taken care of, educated and encouraged to pursue their needs, while also being bound to their homes and forced to work in whatever trade the master sees them fit. Many travellers come to Zathurin’s City hoping to become masters, but end up being servants of the state because they cannot get out of debt or run out of luck. Anyone, of any race can become a servant - even elves, who are highly considered the ruling class, can become servants.
